Major eSports tournaments are becoming more and more common, which is ensuring that top players have little downtime between them these days. Although Dreamhack Winter was held not even two weeks ago at the end of the busy, eSports-filled November, the finals for the North American Star League Season 2 soon followed. From December 2nd until the 4th, many of the top StarCraft 2 players went head to head once again.
Although many of the major tournament wins in the past few tournaments were going to both Protoss and Zerg players, Evil Geniuses’ PuMa was looking to bring the human race back to the top. He was also looking at becoming a NASL repeat winner, having taken first place in Season 1.
His first match was against the Zerg Sheth, who he eliminated in a close 3-2 set. Next up he faced off against another Zerg player, and his fellow teammate, IdrA. Although eSport’s favorite bad boy had just taken out Strelok 3-0, PuMa knocked him out of the tournament, also with a 3-0 score. In the semifinals, PuMa went up against a fellow Terran, ThorZaIN. Although things were looking bad for him when ThorZaIN took a 2-1 lead, PuMa stayed in the fight and took the rest of the matches for a 4-2 win.
On the other end of the bracket was HerO from Team Liquid, who had just taken the first place win at Dreamhack. He was looking to follow that win up with another win at NASL. The Protoss player was doing a good job of it, too. His first two rounds were against two other fellow Protoss players. HwangSin fell 3-1, and then HerO went up against HasuObs, who had just eliminated HuK from the tournament. Despite taking out one of the top Protoss players in the scene, HerO shut him down with a 3-0 victory before moving on to take a commanding 4-0 win against Sen.
In the final round, it was HerO and PuMa; the exact same match up from Dreamhack Winter. In that tournament, HerO had taken the win and the grand prize money. However, PuMa showed he could still stand against the player who had defeated him only a week before, and took the series 4-2 to securing the grand prize of $40,000.
In the end, PuMA came in at first place, followed by HerO. A match was set up for both Sen and ThorZaIN, which left them in 3rd and 4th place, respectively.
