Although it might have been easy to miss with all the fanfare of Battlefield 3 launching, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine received a new, sizable update that has enabled the game’s co-op mode. Although the delightfully named Exterminatus will not allow you to rain down destruction over an entire world in truly proper 40k fashion, it does allow you to bring down the Emperor’s holy vengeance in a more personal way with a group of friends.
The mode seems to work similar to a survival mode where players are able to choose one of three classes, the Tactical Marine, Devastator, or Assault Marine. Players then make use of various weapons and perks available to the classes and work together to survive the waves of vile xeno scum.
Currently, the game features two scenarios for Exterminatus Mode, and leaderboards for each. Additionally, the scenarios feature “dynamic challenges” and score modifiers that allow for the difficulty of the game to be increased so players can earn more points.
Already available via Steam, you can grab the update – or more likely, Steam will grab the update for you. This is a free update, so if you already own the game, there’s no need to drop down a penny more.
