Robert Bowling from Infinity Ward took to the Call of Duty forums to address some of the questions players have had regarding the PC version of the upcoming latest installment of the popular series, Modern Warfare 3. These answers address quite a few topics ranging from PC-specific graphics options, dedicated servers, and other PC-specific features. You can get a run down below:
The first question answered was regarding Private Match options, which Modern Warfare 3 will support. Players will be able to have full control of class restrictions, game modes, and access to private match modes, such as “One in the Chamber, Gun Game, and Infected,” and also save their custom games for use in the future.
Additionally, the game will support LAN play, online matchmaking, and dedicated servers. Players able to run their own servers – as a note, currently from the sound of things, ranked play will not be available on dedicated servers – and access a server browser to find others to play on. Server admins will also have access to the Remote Console, allowing them to kick and ban players, reload maps, manage map rotation, and more. They’ll also be implementing a number of anti-cheat methods, including CEG, Steam’s VAC, and their own methods.
The game will have unique graphics options on the PC, which shouldn’t come as a shock. You can enable and disable SSAO, modify DOF, shows, AA, and texture resolution, among other options. Currently, the maximum player count in maps is 18, specifically in the Ground War mode, but they’ve suggested this number may increase.
Unfortunately there will not be mod tools released with the game at launch. However, Infinity Ward has suggested that they are “continually evaluating features to support post launch and this is one requiring further discussion.” So, it isn’t impossible that tools will be released at some point, but don’t go in expecting them to come out. Oh, and there won’t be ‘lean’ in the game either, to keep the experience the same on all platforms.
